Bounty Farm Work Day, Pizza Party and Docent Training July 11th 9 am to 3 pm

July 11, 2009
9:00 AMto3:00 PM

If you haven’t ever been to the Bounty Farm, this would be a great time to come and get a tour and learn about the farm and Petaluma Bounty’s other programs. For those of you who are regulars to our work parties, you should also come to see all the amazing developments that have taken place over the last couple months like the Phoenix Theater billboard and our new cob/rooster oven and benches.   We’ll be baking fresh pizza in the new cob oven at lunchtime!

You can also join an iWALK walking tour described below and then come join in on some Bounty Farm beautification projects, weeding, and also a big gleaning harvest.

We will as always break around noon for a picnic lunch that will be sure to include some of the summer’s bounty from our farm.  Bring something to share if you feel inspired or just bring something for yourself.

iWALK

Join iWALK Petaluma in a walking tour to learn more about gardening and the programs offered by Petaluma Bountys on Saturday, July 11, at 9:30am.

The tour will begin at the McKinley Garden located on the McKinley Elementary School grounds on Madison Street near San Carlos Drive.  Learn about the development of community gardens throughout Petaluma, as well as other PB programs such as Backyard Bounty, Bounty Hunters, the Bounty Box Food Club, and the new Bounty Mobile Market.

The tour will continue to the Petaluma Bounty Farm located at 55 Shasta Avenue where we will tour the grounds and learn about Petaluma Bounty’s involvement in providing food for the community.

By the year 2020, the Department of Health Services envisions that Sonoma County will be the healthiest county in California by starting with the three basics of their Health Action plan: easy access to healthy food, promoting physical activity, and making sure everyone has a “medical home.” iWALK is the first Health Action initiative to launch with the objective of getting significant numbers of Sonoma County residents to walk.  Visit the website at www.iwalksonoma.org for scheduled community walks, walking groups, guidelines to start walking groups, walking maps, exercise trackers, and walking health and safety tips.

What to bring:

  • good food and/or drinks to share (we always have a yummy lunch together around noon)
  • bowl or plate and silverware (so we don’t create too much waste)
  • sturdy boots, strong gloves, sun screen and hat
  • digging tools (shovels, trowels, pick ax) if you have them

You can expect some good old fashioned hard work, getting dirty, and learning together, while we continue to grow this great community farm. Please bring your friends and family of all ages.

For more information or to RSVP, please call me at 775-3663 (ext 213), or email me at amy@petalumabounty.org. I look forward to seeing you there!
