Please come join us at the Bounty Farm to learn about composting and help build the first compost piles at the farm on Saturday, September 20th from 10 A.M. to 1 P.M.
Composting is one of the essential organic matter inputs used to manage soil fertility in organic agriculture. This workshop will cover the fundamental concepts and practices used to produce quality compost with aerobic high temperature composting techniques. Topics that will be touched upon include: the biology of compost, carbon-to-nitrogen ratio of compost materials, moisture content of materials, air (space within compost pile), surface area of compost materials, volume of compost pile, turning compost and troubleshooting. Sheet mulching will also be briefly discussed and demonstrated.
Once we’re done talking about composting, then the fun begins! We will build compost piles in teams.
What to bring:
- Water, sun hat, sunscreen, and light snack
