The lines at food pantries around Petaluma, and around the country, are growing longer. But these days, as this article in today’s New York Times illustrates, the profile of the food pantry goer is changing, as people who never thought they’d find themselves lining up for for free supplemental food are doing just that.
Are you moved to do something to help? Then do this:
1) Right now–Go through your pantry at home (or go to the market) and round up as much healthy, substantial food that you can afford to contribute, and bring it to our Bounty Hunters Collection Site (504 Baker Street, corner Stanley/Western), or bring it to the Petaluma Kitchen (301 Payran, at D Street). All of the food you donate will go right to Petaluma seniors, children and families who need it most. Click here for more about COTS’ Petaluma Kitchen, one of our close partner organizations.
2) Plan to plant an extra bed or row of vegetables (or even a fruit tree or two) this Spring and Summer (and why not next Fall and Winter) to donate to our Bounty Hunters program. You’ll enjoy the freshest, most local food you can eat, and you’ll be helping to build a stronger, healthier Petaluma food system for the future.
