Farewell to the Sonoma County Youth Ecology Corps!

This month, we bid a fond farewell to this year’s 2019 Sonoma Youth Ecology Corps (SCYEC). The SCYEC is a workforce and environmental stewardship program where youth and young adults receive paid, valuable work experience, environmental education and the opportunity to give back to their community, all outdoors! Dubbing themselves the “Mean Green Bean Machine” because of their efficient field skills, motivation to attack weeds, and team collaboration, the SCYEC were an amazing asset to the Bounty Farm this summer. The crew took on major plantings, big weeding endeavors, trellising tomatoes, fixing irrigation, thinning fruit trees, harvesting garlic and so much more. They even worked with our long time community partner John Branscomb to build a vermiculture worm bin on the farm! We are not only so grateful for having the SCYEC during a busy time at the farm, but the Bounty staff also so enjoyed their positive attitudes, their passion and constant humor that kept us smiling and inspired ourselves. So a heartfelt thank you to the 2019 SCYEC. We hope they carry their valuable farm skills and ecological insights into their next endeavor – we can’t wait to see what they do next!
