The month of May is set aside as CalFresh Awareness Month and it seeks to increase public awareness as well as dispel myths and assist clients with CalFresh applications.
In honor CalFresh Awareness Month, Petaluma Bounty and Farmers’ Market LIFE are excited to partner with community organizations, including the Center for Well-Being, Catholic Charities, Redwood Community Health Coalition, Redwood Empire Food Bank, 211, Petaluma Health Care District and county agencies including Sonoma County Human Services and Health Services, and Area Agency on Aging, as we launch a full month of exciting community events to encourage everyone to learn about CalFresh and consider expanding their healthy eating budgets by using Market Match incentives to stretch their budgets further.
Also, just for the month of May, Petaluma Bounty and Farmers’ Market L.I.F.E. will be increasing the daily maximum match to $20 for people marking purchases with CalFresh in our 13 Farmers’ Markets. For details and a list of all markets involved, please go to www.farmersmarketlife.org.
To celebrate CalFresh Awareness Month and this increase of incentives, we, along with our community partners, are hosting eight health and wellness events complete with blood pressure screenings, CalFresh sign-up assistance, market tours, nutritional education complete with a food demo, and more!
