Meet the Bounty Interns: Summer 2018

When we say we farm in community, we mean it!

Our farm crew is non-traditional at its best- stalwart volunteers, service learning groups, staff, SCYEC crew members, and interns. This month, we want to take some time to shine a light on the hard-working folks you may see at our sales outlets, in the field, or at the office this summer.

Meet our late spring & summer interns, some past & present, all huge assets to our community and the work we do – Ali, Chelsea, Luci, Matt, and Rubi! Check out our blog post here for your virtual introduction, and be sure to thank them if you see them at volunteer hours, Farmacy, or the Bounty Farm Stand. We are grateful for all of their hard work, spirit, laughter, and dedication to building community food security.

Chelsea Bantley: Farm Production Intern

I recently transferred to Sonoma State from a community college in my hometown, Livermore. I am an Environmental Studies: Conservation and RestorationMajor. When I’m not doing school work, I love to stay active by running, riding my bike, hiking, surfing, or just about anything else outdoors! I became interested in the Bounty when their director, Suzi Grady, gave a talk about the program in one of my classes. It perfectly ties together my passions for a healthy environment and healthy eating. I hope to see you out on the farm!

Matt Mozzini: Farm Production Intern

My name is Matt Mazzoni and I am from Redwood City, CA. I am a senior at Sonoma State University, studying Water Resources Management with a minor in Biology. I chose to intern with Petaluma Bounty in order to gain experience working not only on a farm, but for a nonprofit organization.

Rubi Hernandez: Nutrition Intern

My name is Rubi Hernandez. I am a Dietetic Intern for CA WIC and a Sonoma County native. I have a bachelors degree from the University of California, Davis. As an intern I collaborated with staff to translate community resources and help with outreach events. The staff at Petaluma Bounty taught me a lot about farming and sustainability. As a soon-to-be Registered Dietitian, I hope to take all that I’ve learned and the task that I have developed and put them to good use.

Alison Evans: Farm Production Intern

I am a Sonoma State student set to graduate in December with a degree in Environmental Studies with a focus in Conservation and Restoration and I am currently a food production intern at Petaluma Bounty. I am passionate about designing ways to make agriculture more sustainable and I hope to work for a non-profit organization after I graduate much like the Bounty. In my free time when I’m not working on finishing my schooling, I enjoy hiking, playing video games, and reading a good book.

Luci Houser: Farm Production & Engagement Intern

Hi I’m Luci! I’m going to be starting my second year at Southern Oregon University in Ashland, Oregon studying psychology come September. I’m home for the summer and have been loving my time here at Petaluma Bounty! My mom has been a long time gardener and was a board member at the farm in its early days so me and Bounty go way back! I’m so happy to be a part of cultivating the good healthy food that gets put out into our community!
