A HUGE shoutout to all of our wonderful volunteers that came out to the Bounty Farm last Monday to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service with a day ON, not a day off! With over 45 volunteers in attendance, we were able to tackle many winter projects in preparation for spring! Volunteers helped to reinvigorate pathways on the farm with cardboard and mulch, tackle problem weeds, clear out nasty blackberry from our precious hedgerow of perennials, prune our fruit tree orchard, clear out doc, mallow, and crabgrass from our beloved Unity Garden, organize and move 50+ pallets, mulch around our hoop house and greenhouse in preparation for the plant sale, clear out our last winter field of weeds, posts, rocks, and weed our strawberries, and sanitized 4″ pots for our plant sale. Kids got a chance to weed, loved finding worms, proud to push wheelbarrows, as well as spread cover crop on our last winter field.
As a small community farm, we are so grateful for all of these helping hands and a chance to reflect on the importance of working together as a community. We look forward to our next big service day in March for Cesar Chavez Day of Service!
