Farmers’ Market LIFE (Local Incentive for Food and Economy) has now been in operation for 18 months and we’re thrilled to share the following results. In total, our 12 participating farmers’ markets have distributed $62,571 in incentives and $79,660 in CalFresh for a total of $142,231 from June, 2015 until October, 2016. That includes 4208 transactions at participating farmers’ markets where people on CalFresh purchased locally grown goods. This is truly community food security at work- increasing the purchasing power of CalFresh customers while expanding the customer base of our hardworking farmers!
Also, in 2016, Farmers’ Market LIFE celebrated National Farmers’ Market Week and will conduct 20 CalFresh Farmers’ Market Tours in collaboration with Northern California Center for Well-being.
Thank you again for your continued support in Farmers’ Market LIFE. We are finalizing our next application for the 2017 through 2019 seasons and are seeking a few more corporate sponsors or donors willing to sign a letter of commitment by December 5th, 2016. Without local funding, we cannot access or utilize federal (FINI) funds! Please email Suzi if you are interested in supporting Farmers’ Market LIFE.
As a way of saying thank you to our donors, farmers, CalFresh customers and community, we will be increasing daily limits on incentives to $20 at all markets for the month of December!
