Join Farmers’ Market LIFE and Petaluma Bounty August 2nd through the 8th as we celebrate National Farmers’ Market Week! Commemorated across the country, this is a time to honor our local farmers, farmers’ market staff, and everyone behind the scenes who make our markets a rich celebration of local and traditional food cultures. We will be focusing on celebrating our local Sonoma County version of National Farmers’ Market week!

Now more than ever, our community farmers’ markets are vital and essential members of our local food system and that begins with our wonderful market managers; they are our community food security heroes and frontline workers. This week, we will be sharing on our social media how vital they are to the operation and various ways to celebrate them! They have kept farmers’ markets viable and safe during the pandemic, prioritize health safety, and continue to make local food accessible to folks who are low income. Remember that you can use P-EBT at the Markets to increase your buying capacity of local, fresh fruits and vegetables!
Further, our community farmers markets are places of personal and environmental health – shopping at farmers’ markets supports the health and wellbeing of you, your local economy, environment, and community! It is more noticeable than ever that during this pandemic, local food systems are resilient and dependable in making food available to all.
The final main topic we will be exploring during National Farmers’ Market week are ways that we can honor diversity at markets; we seek to do this by celebrating the diversity of people, food, and traditions that help make the spaces viable and vibrant! One way we will be doing this is by sharing images and stories from our Faces of the Market initiative. #representationmatters
