Petaluma Bounty’s Community Resources Coordinator Allison was the featured speaker at the Petaluma Garden Club’s monthly meeting on March 10.
Allison presented about local efforts to reduce food waste and make sure that every last Petaluma-grown apple finds a happy home. She manages our Bounty Hunters program, which turns a food waste problem into a food security solution by donating surplus produce from local farms, gardens, and backyards to local food pantries.
You can sign up to be a Bounty Hunters harvester or driver here, and you can request a glean of your property here.
Allison addressed a packed room of about 100 gardening enthusiasts who shared myriad interesting questions and comments. They were excited about Petaluma Bounty’s offering of free compost in partnership with Zero Waste Sonoma (weekly on Thursdays and Saturdays, 10am-12pm); they wanted to know which foods are most sought out by local food pantry clients; and they had ideas on ways to share other items such as donating extra toiletries to COTS.
The Club was inspired to make a donation to support Petaluma Bounty, and one of the organizers even painted a rock with Petaluma Bounty’s logo for Allison as a keepsake. It’s her new prized possession!
If you haven’t heard, the Petaluma Garden Club was named this year’s Butter and Egg Parade Grand Marshal. What a way to ring in their 101st year gathering Petalumans with green thumbs!
We’re grateful to partner with this longstanding and dedicated community group.
