Thanks to The Fruit Guys Community Fund and our friend Jurassic John, Petaluma Bounty has a healthy flock of 19 chickens in our orchard.

Bred at Alchemist Farm in Sebastopol, our colorful flock consists of:  

• Azure Egger Chicks
• Bantam Cochin Chicks
• German Bielefelder Chicks
• Sage Egger Chick 2022 Line

We sought to incorporate a flock of chickens into our operation for the following considerations:

The addition of a mobile chicken coop with a solar powered fence and automatic door opener would allow us to rotate egg-laying chickens into our crop rotation, minimize mowing (GHG emissions) in non-cultivated spaces, interrupt pest life cycles in the orchard and growing areas, provide natural fertilizer and minimize organic losses when produce goes bad, and provide eggs to our staff and volunteers. Additionally, this will allow us to incorporate animal husbandry to our educational programming and site where hundreds of children visit annually.
