Use SUN Bucks at Farmers Markets and Get Extra to Spend with Market Match

SUN Bucks, provides $120 per eligible child to help families buy food during the summer when school is out. SUN Bucks can be used at any approved retailer that accepts standard EBT or CalFresh benefits, including many farmers markets.

On top of that, Market Match is offered to SUN Bucks customers just like for CalFresh/EBT customers. Each CalFresh and SUN Bucks card is matched dollar-for-dollar, up to a daily maximum ($15 or $20, depending on the market). That means if a family has one CalFresh/EBT card and two Sun Bucks cards, the daily maximum applies to each card separately.

Just bring the card to the market manager’s booth and have the PIN number handy.

CalFresh & SUN Bucks can be used to buy:

  • Fruits and vegetables
  • Beans, fish, poultry, meat
  • Rice, bread, tortillas, cereal
  • Milk, cheese
  • Seeds and plants that produce food

 CalFresh & SUN Bucks cannot be used to buy:

  • Alcohol, tobacco, cigarettes
  • Non-food items
  • Pet food, toilet paper, diapers, soap, etc.
  • Vitamins, medicine
  • Energy drinks
  • Hot foods or foods prepared in the store

Market Match can be used to buy:

  • Fresh fruits and vegetables
  • Plants that grow into food
