All people, regardless of income, deserve access to nutritious food at all times. In California, CalFresh provides extra money for food to those in need. During the month of May, which is designated as CalFresh Awareness Month, we especially want to highlight this important and underutilized program.
Many farmers markets accept CalFresh. Participating markets also offer Market Match, which provides CalFresh customers extra funds to spend at the market on fruits and vegetables. Petaluma Bounty and our partners in the FM LIFE program are proud to be part of the Market Match effort. Click here for more information on how Market Match works.
Upping the effort (and incentives) in May
Many of the FM LIFE markets are limited to a $10 maximum a day due to Market Match funding. During the month of May, we are increasing Market Match at participating FM LIFE markets. At the FM LIFE Markets which normally offer a $10 maximum match daily, we will offer a $20 maximum daily.
CalFresh benefit amounts that were increased to address pandemic hardships recently reverted to pre-pandemic levels, despite inflation and many other challenges. Help us spread the word about the importance of CalFresh. You or someone you know could be entitled to this program. Check eligibility here. You can apply online here.
Weekly Raffle for CalFresh Customers at Sebastopol Farmers Market
Sebastopol Farmers Market is planning a weekly raffle. Customers who make an EBT transaction will be given a raffle ticket and a drawing will be held at the end of the market day.
Farmers Market Tours for Service Providers
We are scheduling market tours for service providers who assist CalFresh customers. Those interested are encouraged to contact Petaluma Bounty to coordinate. Email masako@petalumabounty.org.
