EBT Skimming Hits Sonoma County Hard

—  What CalFresh Customers Can Do —

Over the last year or so, California has seen a spike in electronic theft of CalFresh/EBT balances. Sonoma County was hit particularly hard in recent months. Skimming is the use of electronic equipment to capture a recipient’s electronic benefits card information. Scamming, which is deceiving a recipient to disclose their account information.

CalFresh customers are urged to monitor their account balances. Customers who are impacted by skimming or scamming have 10 days to report the loss to the county. Here’s the link to the county’s webpage on how to file a report. (Expand the question, “If my benefits are stolen electronically and my card was not lost or stolen, can my benefits be replaced?”)
