Our Partnership with the Master Gardeners of Sonoma County

Editor’s Note: Petaluma Bounty is proud of and grateful for our partnership with the Master Gardners of Sonoma County. The Master Gardeners have done a wonderful job of revitalizing the Unity Garden near the entrance to our farm and turned it into an oasis open to everyone. Master Gardeners are at most of Petaluma Bounty Farm’s events and also have their own programs where they are more than happy to share their expertise with the community. Here’s a little background and an invitation to 2024 events. Thank you, Master Gardener Reneé, for writing this blog post.

Revitalization of the Unity Garden

In the fall of 2020, Master Gardeners of Sonoma County began the revitalization of the Unity Garden at Petaluma Bounty Farm, turning it into a demonstration site for sustainable gardening methods. A longtime partner with Petaluma Bounty, Master Gardeners of Sonoma County created an outdoor classroom site within the Unity Garden for food, habitat, and pollinator education and outreach to the Petaluma community and Sonoma County at large.

After 2-plus years of work to revitalize the Unity Garden, last spring, the group celebrated with a Mini Spring Workshop series hat included information tables and speakers on vegetable gardening in a wine barrel; raised bed gardening; spring/summer vegetable planting; composting; irrigation, and more.

At most Petaluma Bounty Farm events and at seasonal Master Gardeners’ programs, Master Gardeners are on hand to address questions related to:

  • soil and plant nutrition
  • irrigation
  • weed/insect/disease control
  • vegetables, fruit trees and berries
  • landscape trees/shrubs/lawns/flowers
  • home composting, and
  • pesticide use alternatives.

The Master Gardeners invite you to visit the Unity Garden at Petaluma Bounty Farm and observe the vegetable and food hedgerows, raised beds for food gardening, fruit trees, pollinator beds, and succulent and container gardens.
