May is CalFresh Awareness Month. CalFresh helps to improve the health and well-being of qualified households and individuals by providing improved access to healthy and nutritious foods.
Petaluma Bounty and farmers’ market organizations run the Market Match program in Sonoma and Marin counties to make locally grown, fresh food more affordable to CalFresh customers. This May, we are taking the following steps during CalFresh Awareness Month.
Increasing Market Match to $20/Day
For the month of May, we are increasing Market Match maximum to $20 per day. CalFresh customers can get up to $20 of free fruits and vegetables per day when they use $20 CalFresh (EBT) at participating farmers’ markets throughout May.
Meat, Dairy, & Eggs Program for CalFresh Customers
Our Meat, Dairy, & Eggs program initially ran in November and December 2021. We are running Round 2 to mark CalFresh Awareness Month. We’ll be distributing $40 in vouchers that can be used to purchase meat, dairy, and egg products at participating farmers’ markets until June 30, 2022. For more information, click here.
About 4.5 million Californians in 2.5 million households currently receive CalFresh Food
benefits. However, it’s estimated that nearly 2 million more Californians are eligible for
assistance but do not receive them.
