Editor’s note: Raney Brooks came onboard as the 2022 Bounty Farm Assistant in June of 2022. At that time, Raney had just wrapped up two years as a Registered Nurse during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the 8 months since, Raney went above and beyond her duties to grow into a respectable leader on the Bounty Community Farm. It is now time for Raney to continue her journey onward and luckily, she plans to remain involved with the Bounty moving forward. We look forward to her continued involvement with, and influence on, our team and our work.
Raney’s Temporary-Farewell Message
During the 2022 growing and harvest season, I had the grand opportunity to be the farm assistant under our qualified and passionate then-farm manager. I am incredibly grateful for that time of learning, community engagement, and the teamwork that was shared amongst the Bounty Farm Team. I am thankful for all the volunteers whom I met and all that they bring to energize the farm every week.
I loved spending time tending to our hens and I am thankful for the experiences I gained in working with volunteer John Branscomb. He is a very patient man who kindly shared his wide range of expertise to construct homes and hangout spots for our chickens.
My personal goal in taking on the position with the Bounty was to learn how food is grown and to contribute positive energy to our local food system. Moving forward, I am excited to continue this knowledge journey on dismantling the discriminatory food systems that permeate the social and economic structures of our society. Food is Medicine! I will use the experiences I gained working at the Bounty throughout my future as both a nurse and a farmer.
I am thankful for the friends I made (both human and others) over this past year and I wish the best for the 2023 harvest season on the Bounty Community Farm!
